I am Sophie Sotheby the creator of the jewellery that can be found on this website. I moved over to the Netherlands in 2010 after receiving a national diploma in art and design. Once in Holland, I attended the Vakschool in Schoonhoven, which is a technical based school where I studied for four years to become a goldsmith. This course consisted of two internships which I did at Frans Zeegers in Wassenaar and by Herman Romberg in The Hague. These two places have helped me along side other gold/silversmiths in and around the area to become a talented goldsmith at an early stage in my career.
Though out my education I was awarded top places in all the competitions held due to my strong ability to design and to stick to any given theme. To this day I hold design at the upper most importance in creating a desirable piece of jewellery or decorative object.
This is one of my most prized accomplishments. To receive your diploma from the Vakschool in Schoonhoven you need to finish with your "Master piece". I pulled out all the stops to create a temple which you can see here below.
This decorative temple that I made consists a couple of hidden features. The main building itself is made up of two boxes, held in place by a beam structure. The lower floors windows and door are a bracelet with a magnetic clasp. The uppermost part of the temple is a removable golden pendant.
This piece has been displayed in the famous dutch "Zilvermuseum" in Schoonhoven, the "meesterlijke beurs" in the Westergasfabriek Amsterdam and in Gallerie Zone for the jubilee celebration.
